Real saffron can be pretty difficult to find so where from where you have bought your saffron and at what price says a lot about its authenticity. If you bought your saffron at a very cheap price then it is definitely fake or of a very low quality. Apart from that, here are a few ways that can tell you whether your saffron is pure or not:
- Pure saffron tends to be deep red in color with long strands.
- Just put a strand of saffron in your mouth to taste it. If it tastes sweet then it is definitely not pure and genuine as real saffron does not taste sweet.
- Pure saffron has quite an interesting aroma. It smells as if hay and honey have been mixed together and has a sweet-ish smell.
- Put a few saffron threads in some water. Pure saffron will take some time to release color whereas fake or low-quality saffron will start releasing color immediately. If you take out a strand, pure saffron won’t have lost its original color whereas fake one will lose its color.
- The highest quality of saffron available is called ‘Mongra’ and it tends to be a bit expensive.
If you are looking for high-quality pure saffron then you can buy it online from Kashmirica.
